As the saying goes, good things take time, and this work by Ker-Xavier Roussel is a perfect example of that. Ker-Xavier Roussel was commissioned in the spring of 1916. He completed the works in 1926. My name is Maria Luise Ziltener Fuiko and I have been working as a museum attendants for just over 10 years. Werner and Hans Reinhart, two brothers of Oskar Reinhart, commissioned and sponsored these two works after meeting Ker-Xavier Roussel on Lake Geneva. At the time, Ker-Xavier Roussel was well known for his stage designs and paintings, but he was quite unwell; this commission really sparked his vitality, and he threw himself into the project with great enthusiasm, producing and presenting a great many designs, which were then approved by the board and also by the city authorities, as they too had to give their consent. In the end, the final works bear almost no resemblance to the original designs. However, everyone was pleased because the works that are now on display are perfect for this location.
